Consumer law aims to protect the interest of consumers and create awareness about their rights in growing economy and consumerism in India. Establishment of consumer forums and authorities for settling consumer disputes are some of the provisions under Consumer Protection Act.

This law is designed to prevent businesses from indulging into fraudulent practices and unfair practices to gain undue advantage over competitors. Such unfair and unethical business practices hamper the customer from getting the rightful quality of service or product.

Consumer can approach these forums in case of a dispute or not meeting expectations claimed by product manufacturer, issues with quality of product or service, incomplete or no information shared by manufacturer or service provider etc. Categorizing based on the amount of claim consumer can approach dispute redressal forums at district, state or national level. Consumers can also approach authorities under consumer law of addressing issues related to fair competition, medical negligence etc.
