Indian Criminal Law defines the framework of legal system to recognise offense and crime, categorize them based on the severity and decide the punishment or fine for it.
Criminal law present in societies all over world defines rules and regulation to deal with people deviating from normal acceptable behaviour, or people performing an act or exhibiting behaviour that may harm someone or society in general.
Words ‘crime’ or ‘offense’, induce a baggage of social stigma to people involved in such cases. However, we believe in conducting the criminal law practice to guide people or entities involved with nitty-gritty of law and drive towards the logical solution to help get justice delivered in timely manner.
Criminal law is structured into three major acts
Indian Penal Code, as a comprehensive code which defines all offences recognised by Indian Legal system, in short, the list of ‘what not to do and what could make one liable & penalize for doing it
Code of Criminal Procedure, stating the procedure to handle investigation of crime and way of dealing with people involved in the act of crime. It is the entire comprehensive procedure whereby offenders are brought to books. From investigation to conviction.
And, Indian Evidence Act to decide on the acceptability of evidence which is core in concluding the decision in any matter. It is the law of proof.
Apart from these major acts there are multiple additional acts included in Criminal law such as The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, The Food Safety and Standards Act, Dowry Prevention act, Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act, (MCOCA), Indian Arms Act, etc, to name a few.
